Posted Date: 12/31/25 (03:00 PM)

December 31, 2025

Dear FUSD Staff and Families,

As part of our continued commitment to student, staff, and community safety, Coconino High School (CHS) and Flagstaff High School (FHS) will implement a Clear Bag Policy for select activities beginning January 5, 2026.

This policy will apply to all after-school events held in the stadium or inside the gymnasium at CHS and FHS, including athletic events and other large gatherings.

What this means for attendees

When the clear bag policy is in effect, each attendee may bring:

  • One clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag (no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”)

  • OR one one-gallon clear resealable plastic bag

  • One small clutch or wallet (approximately 4.5” x 6.5”, with or without a strap)

  • Medically necessary bags (subject to inspection)

  • Diaper bags when accompanied by an infant or young child

All bags and items entering the venue will be subject to security screening.

Prohibited bags and items

Prohibited bags include backpacks, purses larger than a small clutch, drawstring bags, fanny packs, camera or computer bags, coolers, and tinted or patterned bags. Prohibited bags may not be placed inside a clear bag to gain entry. Additional prohibited items include outside food and drinks (except factory-sealed water), noisemakers, oversized strollers, weapons, and other items deemed a safety risk by security personnel.

Why this policy is being implemented

The Clear Bag Policy is designed to:

  • Enhance safety and security at school events

  • Improve the efficiency of entry and security screening

  • Create a consistent experience for all attendees

Clear bags allow security staff to quickly and easily screen items, helping reduce wait times and improve overall event safety.

How families can prepare

Clear bags are widely available at local retailers and online. We encourage families and staff to review the policy in advance and plan accordingly before attending CHS or FHS events.
